Melissa Jiménez

Upper School Art Assistant

Melissa Jiménez Arechiga earned a B.A. in design as well as a minor in art history from the University of California, Davis. Her main focus was graphic design with other related courses such as textile design, lighting technology design, and furniture design. Melissa fulfilled a childhood dream of working with youth by becoming a recreation leader with the City of San Pablo, where she facilitated recreational activities and lesson plans for the young campers. In order to explore her interest in art at a young age, she enrolled in classes at the Richmond Art Center. She learned new art skills over the years including crocheting, quilling, sewing, origami, and other art forms. Aside from learning new crafts, Melissa also enjoys spending time with all her pets – her husky, bunny, turtle, parakeet, and bearded dragon! Melissa is excited to be joining Black Pine Circle School for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year and having the opportunity to keep learning more about art and working with the youth of our community.

Why I Work with Children

I find it fascinating to be able to learn and gain a new perspective on things from children as they may see the world differently than adults do. They are full of energy and creativity which is challenging yet exciting.

A Favorite Book

I’ve been reading a large amount of Disney books this year, but my current favorite is The Walt Disney Film Archives: The Animated Movies 1921-1968 by Daniel Kothenschult.

Quick Fact

Once entered a Mean Girls t-shirt design contest and, after winning, my shirt was sold in stores and was able to see Mean Girls on Broadway!
